Best listened to with headphones/in stereo - My guitars panned right side (There's an issue with Windows 10 and webcams at the moment, I just got a new 1080p/60fps webcam but it's pretty much restricted to potato quality/30fps at the moment. Should be a fix out for it this month according to Microsoft) Subscribe to keep updated with future videos!

Quite simple to play, so thought I'd spend a bit more time on the recording side of things - played around a lot more with layering multiple tracks this time, and pretty happy with the results; guitar sounds a lot thicker this time. Best listened to with headphones - Myself panned right side

Finally got round to doing a full proper cover of Aetherside! Apologies for the potato-quality of the video, will get a decent recording camera for future videos hopefully! (As with all my covers, best listened to with headphones or in stereo - my track is panned right with the original panned left) Feel free to make any suggestions for future HIM/Daniel Lioneye covers in the comments :)

Funeral of Hearts Cover (All Guitar Arrangement)

My first video! Decided to start this channel with my favourite HIM song, and it was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, so it's more of an homage than anything. I did a different version of this with more lead/improvisation based stuff throughout, which I may upload at a later date. I've tried to emulate Linde's guitar tone as much as possible with my current equipment, and I'm aiming ...

      Cheers mate! And surprisingly no! Found recording the analogue rig too much nuisance and have transitioned to plugins. For this I'm using Neural DSP archetype Rabbea (rhythm tones and solo at the beginning and middle) and Archetype Petrucci (cleans, acoustic and 'vocal' melody lead). Was never a fan of plugins until I tried the Neural DSP stuff and was really impressed with the quality, so here we are!

    Do you know what speakers are in Lindes Laney Cabs? I've been listening to the part in sleepwalking past hope today over and over where you can only hear the guitar - now i'm 95% sure these are not V30s. Does he use HH speakers? If so... what model? The watt rating on his cab would be useful.

      He uses Laney 2x12 or 4x12 which have Greenbacks as far as i know. For Wattage i think they are between 50W or 60W... He had like 4 of them. Then he also got a Peavey 5150 / 6505 in the last years. He also used a Telecaster in the Studio, so it's not only SG.

    Hey buddy I'm really trying to nail Lindes rhythm tone from the mid 2000's stuff such as the live performances from digital versatile doom and the Yhteinen charity for Asia show. I've got a good idea for the effects for solos and what not but I'm looking to get the rhythm tone mostly. If I run the Pharoah fuzz and the mxr line driver in front of a crunchy overdrive Channel of my amp would that do it? Or do you think I would also need the multiplexer? I love his those rhythm tone so much. Thick heavy but clear. It's almkst like a doom metal tone but crunchy and articulate without all that unnecessary fuzz you hear in alot of this genres. I appreciate any help big time ive been trying to nail it for ages!

    • @1alexanderkup1
      @1alexanderkup1 4 роки тому

      he described perfectly in detail in what position you need to leave fuzz and line driver to get the sound. Also he suggests to use passive hot output pickup like 500T for more tight but thick sound. Check the comments below. Multiplexer definitely will help for heavy riffs like Passion's Killing Floor.

    Is there a purpose in taking off a pickup cover/having a coverless pickup? Isn't the only difference shielding from hum/noise? He only took one from bridge pickup, so i guess cover can take some treble or volume off, but i don't think it would make any noticeable difference. I ordered some covers for my SG special, but only for the looks, i'm used to that look on a SG.

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 7 років тому

      +Chris Lewin nah, he may have used those for a while, but I did an interview with him and Kimmo (guitar tech) a couple of months back and it turns out he's currently got a 500T in the bridge and 57 Classic in the neck. Not sure when he changed this though. As for the supernatural, it's just the standard Spring verb setting, with all knobs at about 12 o clock really, nothing too fancy. It does give a nice volume boost and thickness for solos and cleans though, so I use it for those purposes. It's not really needed to achieve his sound at all, but highly recommend it as it's just a fun pedal. Can get some real heavenly sounding synth stuff out of it with some fine tweaking

    Hello I have more or less the old setting in the sounds of our Linde. I have a LaneyVH100r Octafuzz MXR Boos Line Driver and Octaver but you can not get to the Linde sound. It attaches some pedal in the loop?

  • @micridley7947
    @micridley7947 7 років тому

    could you give a walkthrough of some kind or basic write up? like.. tone/bass/treb/gain/mid levels. go to pickups. necessary pedals. etc. currently I'm running a black arts toneworks Pharaoh fuzz into a Laney Ironheart 30watt. probably need to upgrade my sgs pickups from emgs but dunno which direction to go.

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 7 років тому

      +mic ridley hey, I have the IRT 120 so hopefully this should be quite easy to talk through! I run the lead channel at about 6-7 on the gain, bass at +1, and mids and treble at -1. I have the 'tone' dial somewhere between -2 and 0, depending on the speakers, but you'll have to find the sweet spot yourself, just enough to cut the harsh highs, but not too low that it becomes muddy. For pickups I'd swap the actives out and put a 500T in the bridge that Linde uses. It's still a high output humbucker, but has a bit more clarity and note definition that the actives don't and just compress too hard. For pedals you want the pharaoh fuzz set on the LO and Germanium settings (left and up). The 2 top tone knobs I have floating around the 1-3 o clock areas, the output set to about 4-5 o clock, and the fuzz at about 9 o clock. This treats the fuzz as more of a boost, adding too much on the fuzz dial will just compress your tone to mush. The pharaoh then feeds a boost pedal with a moderate output boost (will depend on what pedal you use) that's for the main drive sound, keep the boost on at all times for main crunch, then hit the fuzz on for leads or heavier parts. Let me know if you want tips on the octaver/wah stuff too. Hope this helps!

      you are some sort of magician sir. thank you very much, I'll be playing with this all day tomorrow. I'll have to pick up a boost pedal sometime in the near future . recommendations ? I'll get back to you sometime when I have hiccups!

      what do you keep the dynamic knob at

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 7 років тому

      +mic ridley to be honest I've found it doesn't really have much of an effect. I think it's related to the power stage, so unless you're running it loud, it won't make much difference at lower volumes. Either way I run it at about 3 o clock. Gives quite a nice sag to the lows which works well with the fuzz. Did the settings I gave the other day help by the way?

    • @micridley7947
      @micridley7947 7 років тому

      Overall I think it's sounding a lot better than what I had. I think the boost pedal will help a lot when I get one. Or will the boost on the ironheart pedal work the same way? However, my Pharaoh pedal introduces a horrible hum/buzz now that it didnt used to. Its nothing to do with settings, but whenever iturn it on (even in a separate loop) it makes a loud passive buzz. Hitting the boost on my ironheart pedal makes it even worse.

    Hey I'm back for another question ^^ I recently bought a 61 reissue SG, great guitar! But which pickups would you say comes closest to the early HIM sound: live sound around 2000, Duncan SH-4 and SH-5 or the stock Gibson pickups? :)

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 8 років тому

      Is that the 2012 white one? nice :) He's currently using a Duncan SH-1 59' and 500T at the moment. Back in that era I'm not sure, but I think he was using stock Gibson at the time, so most likely the 498t/490r. He didn't start using the Duncan's for quite a while past 2000. The main drive behind his sound back then was the Octafuzz, the fuzz compresses the signal so hard that pickups won't really make much of a difference on that tone anyway. SH-4 and SH-5 are great pickups though anyway so I'd recommend those regardless of achieving any specific tones

    • @JonasDaniel95
      @JonasDaniel95 8 років тому

      nah its a 2016 Black one, brand new :) it has 2x '57 pickups, but i have the SH-4 and SH-5 lying around, also i have a Laney GH100L, Octafuzz 2, Fulltone Super Octave, Fat Fuzz Factory and the bass Wah :)

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 8 років тому

      +Jonas Jørgensen you're pretty much set then! I'd add a boost into that chain though right at the end. I had one set before my pharaoh fuzz but after moving it to after the fuzz it made a good difference to the sound. Boosts the fuzz level while also hitting the amp harder, and will also make your octave stand out more. You could try a cheap overdrive like the Bad Monkey and set it as a clean boost. It was okay when I did that but I upgraded to the MXR Line driver and it's brilliant, so get that if you can

    • @JonasDaniel95
      @JonasDaniel95 8 років тому

      i have a MXR micro amp, will it make it sound more like 2000 era when boosting? and should i use the stock '57 pickups og the Duncans?

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 8 років тому

      +Jonas Jørgensen the micro amp is very similar circuitry to the Line Driver so yes use that definitely! Try it at the end of your chain and use a volume boost to taste (start around 12 o clock on the gain) it's up to you with the pickups, the 57's are quite low output in comparison to the SD's but if you're boosting anyway it shouldn't matter too much. If you have the money to spare though, there's no harm in trying them! Any songs/tones from that era in particular you're after?

  • @bendrowe
    @bendrowe 8 років тому

    After hearing your Linde tone test, which I was pretty amazed with, I can't help wondering whether you're using 2 amps. Obviously I can only one in this video but if you are just using the single Laney head, I'd love to know your signal chain.

    • @AJLazer
      @AJLazer 8 років тому

      +Ben Rowe hey Ben, it is actually just the one amp, although I do layer the guitar tracks which might make it sound like there's 2 at once. My signal chain is: SG with 498t/490r>Polytune 2 noir>ISP Decimator II G String (signal splits into 2. For the loop, it goes into a Hardwire Supernatural, and then the FX loop, which feeds back into the Decimator) back at the front end chain, the Decimator then goes>Crybaby 105q Bass Wah> Octave Multiplexer>Pharaoh Fuzz>MXR boost/Line driver>Laney Ironheart 120W>Celestion V30's Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to go into more detail on

    • @bendrowe
      @bendrowe 8 років тому

      Wicked! Yeah, I will do, thanks. I'm not necessarily trying to nail Linde's exact tone, per say, but I really love the fuzz and octave effects over a standard overdriven tone. That shit just sounds insane!
